PRIORITY · DIGITAL

Digital skills, AI literacy, and the future of learning.

Education is changing faster than at any point in living memory. We help educators, institutions, and learners keep pace — building digital competence, AI literacy, and the tools, platforms, and resources that make modern learning possible. Our work in this space goes back to the early days of e-learning, and includes pioneering AI-in-education work since 2018.

THE CHALLENGE

The digital transformation of learning is uneven.

Across Europe, the gap is widening between educators and institutions who can confidently use digital tools — including AI — and those who cannot. Generative AI is changing classrooms before most teachers have had a chance to think about it. At the same time, basic digital skills remain unevenly distributed across the adult population, and too few learners have access to the kinds of online resources, platforms, and interactive content that the next decade of education will depend on.

The response cannot be technology-led. It has to be grounded in pedagogy, evidence, and the everyday reality of teachers and learners — and it has to reach everyone, not just those who were already digitally confident.

OUR APPROACH

How we approach digital education.

Our digital work spans skills, AI literacy, platforms, and frameworks — guided by four principles.

01

Pedagogy first, technology second

We start with what learners and educators need — then choose the tools, platforms, and approaches that genuinely serve those needs. No tool deployment for its own sake.

02

Open and accessible

Our platforms, materials, and frameworks are released openly. Free to use, adapt, and build on — by anyone, anywhere in Europe.

03

Built for educators

We work alongside teachers, trainers, and adult educators — not above them. Our resources reflect what actually works in classrooms, training rooms, and adult learning settings.

04

Ethics and inclusion built in

Especially in our AI work — but across all digital projects — we treat ethics, inclusion, and learner agency as design requirements, not afterthoughts.

WHAT WE DELIVER

What we deliver in digital.

Across our digital projects, our work has produced concrete tools, frameworks, and capacity:

Online learning platforms

Long-standing capability in designing and developing online learning platforms — from small project websites to full-featured learning environments serving thousands of users.

Interactive content and resources

Lesson plans, courses, interactive activities, and self-paced learning materials built for use in adult education, vocational training, and continuing professional development.

AI competence frameworks

Co-author of the DigCompEdu AI supplement — the EU framework for educator AI competence — and active contributor to wider AI-in-education frameworks across Europe.

Digital skills training

Programmes building digital literacy and competence across populations — from basic digital skills for adult learners to advanced technology-enhanced learning for educators.

Technology-enhanced learning

Pedagogical models, tools, and resources that bring digital practice into formal, non-formal, and informal learning contexts.

Policy and expert contributions

Member of the EU working group on AI ethics guidelines for education; founding member of the AI Pioneers network; expert work with the Council of Europe on AI in education.
