PRIORITY · EQUALITY

Gender equality, human rights, and equal opportunities for all.

Our equality work spans four connected areas — gender equality, human rights protection, anti-discrimination, and equal opportunities. We build the knowledge, tools, and networks that turn the right to equal treatment into lived reality, across European projects since 2009.

THE CHALLENGE

Equality requires more than law.

Europe has strong legal frameworks protecting equal treatment and prohibiting discrimination. In practice, gender-based violence, workplace inequality, and discrimination against minority groups persist across every member state — not because the law is absent, but because the awareness, support systems, and cultural change needed to apply it lag behind.

Real equality requires sustained, practical work at the community level — alongside policy and law. It requires reaching people who do not yet know their rights, equipping the professionals who work with them, and changing the everyday workplaces, schools, and institutions where unequal treatment plays out.

OUR APPROACH

How we approach equality work.

Across all four areas — gender equality, human rights protection, anti-discrimination, and equal opportunities — our work follows four principles.

01

Lived experience first

We design with survivors, advocates, and the people affected — not just for them. Their experience shapes the questions we ask and the tools we build.

02

Capacity, not awareness alone

Awareness campaigns matter, but real change happens when service providers, employers, educators, and public officials have the capacity to act differently.

03

Survivor-centred and trauma-informed

Our materials and training reflect what professionals working with survivors of discrimination and violence actually need — practical, sensitive, and grounded in evidence.

04

Cross-sector and cross-border

Equality challenges cross sectors and borders — between countries, between systems, and between professional silos. Our responses are designed the same way.

WHAT WE DELIVER

What we deliver in equality.

Across our equality-focused projects, our work has produced concrete tools, training, and capacity in all four areas:

Gender equality programmes

Training, tools, and campaigns addressing gender-based violence, women in the labour market, and gender mainstreaming in education and employment.

Human rights protection resources

Curricula and resources for educators, civil society, and frontline workers on rights awareness, rights-based practice, and supporting people whose rights have been violated.

Anti-discrimination training

Programmes for service providers, educators, employers, and community workers — building the practical skills to recognise, prevent, and respond to discrimination.

Equal opportunities tools

Workplace resources and institutional guidance for employers and organisations building more equitable hiring, promotion, and participation practices.

Awareness-and-action campaigns

Campaigns paired with practical resources — visibility plus concrete pathways to action.

Cross-border consortia

European partnerships that share what works across very different national contexts.
